Malta’s participation in this year’s edition of the European Craft Days (ECD) brought together a diverse programme of activities celebrating craftsmanship, creativity, and the transmission of skills across the islands.

Held under the theme “With Heart and Soul,” the initiative saw numerous local artisans open the doors to their workshops, welcoming the public to experience their work up close through demonstrations, interactive sessions, and hands-on workshops. An interactive online map supported the programme, guiding visitors to participating artisans and activities taking place across Malta and Gozo.

Throughout the week, participants had the opportunity to explore a wide range of crafts — from ceramics and textiles to woodwork and decorative arts — while engaging directly with the makers behind each piece, gaining insight into the processes, techniques, and stories that define their practice.

Complementing the week’s activities, the Malta Crafts Foundation also launched a new series of artisanal courses, further extending opportunities for individuals to develop their skills and engage more deeply with craft beyond the event itself.

The local programme culminated with an artisan market held in St Anne’s Street in Floriana, bringing together a selection of artisans in a vibrant setting that combined craft, community, and cultural activity, and offering visitors a final opportunity to experience and support local craftsmanship.

Through its participation in the European Craft Days, the Malta Crafts Foundation continues to strengthen the visibility of Maltese artisans while fostering greater appreciation for the value of craft within contemporary society.
