As part of its ongoing mission to preserve and promote Malta’s artisanal heritage, the Malta Crafts Foundation has developed a new educational publication designed especially for young children to nurture an appreciation for traditional crafts among younger generations.
The publication is intended to serve as a learning resource for PSCD teachers, and to present a number of artisanal careers that the students could eventually pursue.
Drawing inspiration from the traditional quċċija, the book introduces children to a variety of artisanal tools or materials, along with some of the creative professions associated with them.
Alongside its illustrated storyline, the publication features drawings that students can colour in – each representing a different craft and accompanied by short descriptions – as well as a number of tasks they could easily complete.
The publication and its related resources are presented in Maltese, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening cultural identity and linguistic heritage. An English version of the illustration pages, however, is being made available online to facilitate their use as a resource by students who do not yet speak Maltese.
Download the entire publication through this link, or the individual pages from the links hereunder. More resources will be uploaded in due course.
