Christine and Joe Debono are artisans in their own right. They collaborate on some works, while designing and making other works independently at the same studio, or even at the film studios when they are working for some production being shot in Malta, for which they produced a variety of works ranging from sceneries to film props and prosthetics.
Joe Debono has been a painter and sculptor for over 60 years. He has worked in various media, but his favourite medium is pewter: an alloy of tin, which polishes beautifully and does not easily tarnish. The material is ideal for the production of collector pieces, such as the Knights of the Order of St John and the Ottoman soldiers from 1565 AD in 90mm scale, cast in pewter and handpainted. He also designs and produces bronze portrait busts in cold cast bronze resin for clients.
Christine paints portraits in oils for clients, and has also designed and made figurines showing the clothes worn in Malta in the 18th Century based on Zimelli’s prints.
