Charlene ‘Charly’ Mercieca, a former beauty therapist, aromatherapist, and product designer, is the person behind the Soap Café brand. Since a tender age, Charlene had to deal with a lot of skin and health issues which led her to seek alternatives to conventional medicine. Eventually, her training in both natural remedies and design led her to soapmaking, which was her creative outlet. This became a hobby of hers and, ultimately, her full time job.
Today, Soap Café is a collaboration of various artists and artisans offering both Charlene’s own work, and their unique creations. Most of the products are vegan, with the exception of a handful of products which use ethically sourced honey, beeswax, and/or goat’s milk.
The mission and ethos of Soap Café is to produce and use goods that are beneficial for humans, animals, and the planet. Choosing toxic free products means causing less damage to our planet and protecting our own individual health. None of the Soap Café products are tested on animals or use animal fat, while refill systems that drastically reduce single use plastic are also encouraged.
