For the third session of Meet the Artisans, we visited Mark Cassar in Siġġiewi to learn more about his artisanal methods for wine production.

Starting with a short tour of the vineyards which unfortunately was cut short due to the bad weather, participants moved into the production area were they were able to learn more about the traditional processes Mark uses in pressing the grapes and in storing the wine for its fermentation. Of particular interest were the qvevri – traditional winemaking egg-shaped vessels, similar to amphorae, which contain the pressed grapes during the fermentation process.

Participants’ Artisan Passports were also stamped after the session – At the end of the series, those who have most stamps will enter the chance to win a fabulous prize!
