Working from a small family studio in Gozo, Abel Bartolich creates hand-pressed copper etching prints inspired by William Blake’s historic relief-etching method, which he has revived and adapted into a contemporary workflow.
Each artwork begins with a hand-drawn ink illustration that he digitises and prints in reverse before transferring onto copper. From that point onward, every step is entirely handmade: masking, etching, metal preparation, plate inking and printing on cotton or handmade paper.
His work blends natural forms, slow craft and analogue depth to create small-edition prints with a timeless, tactile character.
