Express Your Love
Just a few days after Valentine’s Day, Gozo offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate the occasion through its annual #Inħobbok events spread around the island during the weekend!
As part of this initiative, the Malta Crafts Foundation will once again welcome you to the Ta’ Dbieġi Artisan Village and invite you to participate in a series of workshops that will allow you to express your love! Whether romantic love, family love, or love between you and your most amazing friends, you will have the opportunity to learn a new skill under the guidance of some of Gozo’s master artisans and create a product that is meant to be a true expression of your love!
Express Your Love will take place on Saturday, February 17th between 10:00h and 16:00h. However, while the Artisan Village will be open throughout the day, places for the workshops are limited to ensure dedicated attention and a one-of-a-kind experience, so make sure you reserve your spot! Workshops timings, a brief description of each activity and booking information can be found through this link!
A 10% deposit payable directly to the artisans through BOV Mobile/Revolut is required, and your spot will only be secured upon confirmation of receipt.
WORKSHOPS
Filigree, with George Farrugia of GF Jewellery
Express your love and learn the techniques of traditional Maltese filigree. You and your loved one can come together to create a heart shaped pendant that will remain a memory of the special time you share. At €50 per couple, this workshop includes guidance by Geroge Farrugia on how to create your own heart pendant, which you get to keep; the cost of materials; and a silver chain.
Macramé, with Alda Bugeja at Ta’ Dbieġi Gozitan Handcrafts
Interested in tying the knot? While planning for that may take a while, you can learn the basics of macramé – the craft of knotting – during a 90-minute workshop with Alda Bugeja. You can create a hanging heart ornament and then move on to an elaborate heart shaped coaster. A fee of €50 per couple includes guidance from Alda along with all materials used, and you get to keep whatever you create. For our littler loved ones, a dedicated macramé heart ornament workshop allows them to learn the basic techniques, costing at €10 per child.
Perfume Making, with Marina Fabic from The Perfume Studio
Capture the memory of your love in your own personalised scent! Participate in a workshop at The Perfume Studio where you will learn about the products being created, and the ingredients used in artisanal perfume and candles. Then choose your favourite combinations and Marina, or a member of her team, will create a personalised scent for you. This workshop costs €150 and includes a 50ml eau de parfum along with a handbag spray in a leather pouch. It’s perfect for couples, but even for relatives and friends!
Pottery, with Katrin Formosa of the Gozo Pottery Barn
Express your love by getting your hands a little dirty! Whether you want to learn the techniques of wheel throwing or otherwise prefer static sculpting, Katrin Formosa is there to guide you to create your own personalised item through two types of workshops, each costing €95 per couple including the cost of all materials and the firing of the clay.
Want to try something novel without getting your hands dirty? Try the pottery hugging activity! For €110, Katrin will prepare a clay vase that you and your loved one can hug to leave your own imprint. This unique piece will eternally encapsulate your love, symbolised by the contours of your body when you hug each other around the vase in a love-filled embrace. You can also discuss other decorative options with Katrin or even add carvings or designs to the vase.
All pieces created during these workshops will be kept by the artisan for firing, which is included in the price. You will then be contacted to pick up your items once ready.
Finding it difficult to choose just one workshop? Make a day of it and book different workshops! You can even grab lunch or a coffee and a treat while you are there.
