For its latest MCF Learns session, the Malta Crafts Foundation welcomed lecturers and students of the Imagineering Master’s programme at Breda University of Applied Sciences, who discussed with participating artisans ways in which they could shape the future of their craft.
Imagineering, a creative approach to solving challenges and designing meaningful solutions, was seen as a perfect way to enhance artisans’ professional development, by inspiring them to craft not just functional products and create meaningful experiences and connections, but also work towards re-imagining their artisanal future.
Ahead of the session, the lecturers and students carried out research by visiting museums, local markets, and also conducting interviews with artisans based in the artisan villages in Ta’ Qali and Ta’ Dbieġi to gain further insight on local crafts and be in a better position to guide artisans within the local context.
The Malta Crafts Foundation also took the opportunity to update participants about its work and various initiatives, amongst which the public consultation for the national strategy for the local artisan sector, as well as its participation in the ‘NEXT – Young NEETs shaping EXpectations for The future of Europe’ project, with a focus on multiculturalism.
